Valentine’s Day through the Ages on Grown and Flown

My husband and I went on a fancy date the other night. There were high heels and cologne and and jazz music and fancy Scotch and everything. Even though it’s not quite Valentine’s Day, the night had definite February 14th vibes - lots of romance and overpriced food we were delighted to eat.

I’ve been thinking about Valentine’s Day, mostly because I just wrote an essay for Grown and Flown about the stages of Valentine’s Day. I remember the tortuous teenage Valentine’s Days and my cynical post-teen years of screaming “it’s just a holiday made up by Hallmark executives.” But I also remember when the babies were just babies and Valentine’s Day was one of few excuses that my boyfriend-then-husband and I had to get out of the house by ourselves.

Does Valentine’s Day get better as we get older? It seems to be.
